NORI OKAWA
ARTIST STATEMENT
Nori Okawa was born in 1991 in Okayama, Japan, and graduated from the Department of Graphic Design at Tama Art University in 2014. After experiencing the loss of a close family member at a young age, she began to deeply contemplate the boundary between life and death.
By combining organic and inorganic motifs, Nori’s work explores the intertwined nature of life and death. Through this exploration, she reflects on the potential and beauty inherent in human existence.
Her practice is underpinned by a profound interest in the hedonistic spirit found in traditional ukiyo-e—art that embraced mortality as part of daily life while boldly depicting the beauty and absurdity of living. Just as ukiyo-e once renewed the visual culture of its time by confronting impermanence and pleasure, Nori seeks new pictorial forms that can embrace the chaos of the contemporary world.
Drawing from the formal aesthetics of Japanese art—such as the use of negative space and compositional subtlety—she transforms invisible presences and emotions into perceptible visual forms. Her engagement with historical aesthetics is not merely stylistic homage but a critical and forward-facing practice situated within the continuum of art history.
While actively exhibiting both in Japan and internationally, Nori also extends her work into diverse fields such as advertising and apparel, visualizing the core questions behind her practice across disciplines.

大河 紀
ARTIST STATEMENT
大河紀は1991年岡山県出身、東京都在住。2014年多摩美術大学グラフィックデザイン学科卒業。若くして肉親を失う経験を経て、生と死の境界について深く考えるようになる。
有機質と無機質を組み合わせたモチーフを描くことで、生と死が表裏一体であることを表現し、その探求を通じて人間が持つ可能性や美しさを見つめ直す。
大河の作品には、浮世絵に見られる快楽主義的精神（死を日常に内包しながら、なおかつ生の美と滑稽さを描こうとする姿勢）への深い関心が通底している。浮世絵がかつて、無常と享楽を同時に引き受けながら視覚文化を更新したように、大河もまた、現代の混沌を受け止める絵画の形式を模索している。余白や構成によって見えないものを立ち上げる、日本美術特有の形式美を現代の絵画構造へと昇華させ、可視化されない存在や感情を、絵画として知覚可能なかたちへと変換している。
こうした歴史的美術への参照は、単なる様式的なオマージュではなく、美術史的思考の延長線上にある実践である。
国内外で精力的に作品を発表する一方で、広告ビジュアルやアパレルなど多分野でアートワークを手がけ、作品の根底にある問いを領域を越えて可視化している。
